Using the buttermilk from my cultured butter

Lavender Biscuits

These are so good and cozy! I love eating these with my morning coffee

Ingredients 

  • 1.5 cup all purpose unbleached flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 2/3 c buttermilk, homemade
  • 1/2 tbsp lavender, more for sprinkling
  • 5 tbsp cold butter, I used my homemade cultured
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar

Directions 

  • Process together the flour, lavender, salt, baking powder and sugar
  • Add in the cubed cold butter and process until it is crumbly
  • Slowly add in the buttermilk and process until incorporated
  • Add dough to a floured surface, knead the dough lightly. If it’s too wet/sticky add in a bit of flour (1 tbsp at a time)
  • Flatten the dough with your hands and form a rectangle like in the video, fold it in half a couple times. I find it gets more even. You want it to be 1-1 1/4 inch thick
  • Cut the biscuits using a cookie cutter. Keep forming the dough and cutting it until it is all gone. Mine yielded 9 biscuits
  • Place in a cookie sheet and brush the tops with buttermilk
  • Bake at 425F for 11-13 min or until the tops are golden and they’ve risen
  • I added butter, honey and lavender to mine
