Croque Madame Inspired Eggs… Obviously not traditional BUT delish. Croque madame is one of my favorite sandwiches. Traditionally, croque madame is a sandwich with a fried egg on top. But I decided to change it up a bit, and experiment and it did not disappoint. These were absolutely delicious. Even my sister who isn’t a fan of eggs, absolutely devoured these. I like to top mine with salsa macha, but that is completely optional. Why You’ll Love Croque Madame Inspired Eggs

These eggs are fantastic, but don’t take my word for it, you HAVE to try them! The bread, and the ham elevate the eggs so much and they taste delicious! Frying eggs in heavy cream has been a game changer in my kitchen and a must.

Substitutions

You can substitute the ham for turkey. I garnished mine with chives, but you can garnish it with your favorite herbs. Also, for the cheese you can use your favorite one. I used gruyere, because it’s one of my favorite cheeses, but also is the cheese used for a Croque Madame.

Croque Madame Inspired Eggs

Croque Madame Inspired Eggs… obviously not traditional BUT delish. I tried so hard to say the croque madame well in english to not sound pretentious in my broken french 😂.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cubed crusty bread
  • 6 slices of ham, cubed, I used jambon de paris
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp grated gruyere
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chives to taste but I used a lot

Directions

  • Preheat pan on high for 2 min. Lower to medium, add in butter and bread. Toast in the pan for about 5 min or until golden
  • Add in ham and sautee 2-3 min. Make a well in the center and add in your cream and nutmeg. Caramelize for about 3 min. Add cheese to the edges of the pan and your eggs in the center
  • Cook covered until set, top with black pepper, salt and lots of chives
