Cinco de Mayo is here and I will be celebrating it with this recipe for an amazing Frozen Spicy Strawberry Margarita and eating Mini Salmon Ceviche Tostadas! It doesn’t get any better than that!

Prep Like a Pro

Juice your limes ahead of time – Fresh limes will taste a lot better in this recipe. Juice them ahead of time and pop it in the fridge so it’s ready to go when you’re making these margaritas.

Strawberry Strategies – Give your bag a quick shake to break up big clumps before throwing them in the blender. If they’re too stuck together, you can always run the bag under water for a minute.

Get Your Rim Station Ready – Set up a small plate and mix your chamoy and salt together to whatever your desired combination is.

Garnish Prep – Wash and set aside your strawberries and slice some limes to prep your garnishes.

🫶 And that is it, subscribe for more!

🔥Chef Nadia’s Tip🔥

If your blender struggles with the frozen strawberries, make sure you put all the liquid in first and then the frozen strawberries in last. Starting with the liquids first helps the blades move through the frozen ingredients easier which will give you a smoother blend.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Substitutions
  • Frozen Strawberries → If you would like a different fruit for your margarita you can use whatever you’d like! Make sure you use 4 cups of whatever your preferred frozen fruit is.
  • Tequila → You can use use vodka, rum or mezcal instead of tequila if that isn’t your thing.
  • Chamoy → If you aren’t into spice you can very easily omit the chamoy and just use salt to rim your margarita making this a non-spicy margarita.
  • Agave Nectar → You can swap this with honey or maple syrup.
  • Variations
  • Mocktail Variation → You can replace the tequila with Jalisco 55 if you are interested in making a nonalcoholic version of this cocktail.
  • Extra Spicy Variation → Add some roughly chopped jalapeños to the blender if you want to add a fresh extra kick to this cocktail. You can control how much spice you add by leaving or removing the seeds.
  • Orange Liqueur Variation → For a citrus pop, you can add 1 oz of Triple Sec, Grand Marnier or Cointreau to this Frozen Spicy Strawberry Margarita recipe.

Frozen Strawberry Margarita: Questions Answered

What is the best tequila for a frozen margarita?

Blanco tequila is best for frozen margaritas. It is smooth, citrusy and mixes well with the fruit. I used Teremana Blanco and it went really well with the spice and the strawberries.

What is chamoy and why do people use it in margaritas?

Chamoy is a popular Mexican condiment. It is what adds the “spicy” to the strawberry margarita. It’s sweet, sour, spicy and salty. It adds a bold flavor to the margaritas and a lot of people love it. You may want to taste test it before you add it to the rim to make sure it’s something you like and if you don’t like it, you can easily just omit it. This Frozen Strawberry Margarita recipe will taste great without it too. If you are trying to find it in your area and can’t, the sell both the chamoy and the tajin salt in a pack on Amazon.

Can I make this into a cocktail?

Absolutely! You can replace the tequila with Jalisco 55 if you are interested in making a nonalcoholic version of this cocktail. Or if you are looking for something easier you can just swap the tequila for coconut water or lime soda for a fizzy pop!

Can I make this ahead of time?

You actually can, as long as you freeze it! The tequila makes it so it won’t freeze solid. You can make them and pop it in the freezer and take it out about 20 minutes before you’re ready to drink it. Give it a good stir before serving.
