Baklava (ish) upside down❤️ I know…I know, far from the traditional #baklava but I thought it was a fun way to serve it…even my skeptical Syrian dad loved it!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pistachio
  • 3/4 cup walnut
  • 1/4 cup almond
  • 1 1/4 c cane sugar
  • 3/4 water
  • 1/3 c honey
  • 2 tbsp orange blossom water
  • Dash of cardamom
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter + 8 oz, melted
  • 1 package phyllo

Directions

  • Chop the nuts until pretty small, or you can also process them
  • Add the sugar and water to a pan and simmer until it coats the back of a spoon. About 3-4 min. Add in honey, orange blossom water and cardamom. Simmer 1 min. Turn off and add the 3 tbsp butter. Let cool
  • Prepare an 8 or 10 inch pan by adding a large parchment paper on the bottom. Add some of the caramel and then all the nuts, add rest of the caramel
  • Place one phyllo sheet on a cutting board and brush it with butter, top it with another phyllo sheet and repeat 2 more times for a total of 4 layered phyllo sheets. Crinkle it from both ends and roll it like in the video. Place it in the center of the pan over the caramel
  • Repeat this process forming a spiral with rhe crinkle phyllo until the pan is completely covered. It will take about 7-8 crinkle phyllo sheets
  • Bake at 375 F for 45-50 min or until golden. Press phyllo into the warm caramel so it gets absorbed. Let it cool for about 2 hr and flip. Peel parchment paper off and done
